This is a study by CAMH, the leading mental health research hospital in Canada. Learn more about what's involved in participating in a study at CAMH Research Connect.
CAMH is conducting a study to investigate the use of a potential combination treatment for smoking cessation, and you may be eligible to participate.
Currently, there are approved smoking cessation medications such as Chantix® (varenicline). However, Ontario smokers have a relapse rate of over 50% during the first year of quitting, which is why we are trying to find more effective treatments.
We are aiming to determine if using Chantix® (varenicline) in conjunction with non-invasive transcranial magnetic stimulation improves smoking quit rates in nicotine smoking participants that are looking to quit. Magnetic stimulation has been shown to be useful for the treatment of mental illnesses and smoking cessation.
We are looking for participants who:
- are 18 to 65 years old, and
- are looking to quit smoking
If eligible you will receive treatment for 12 weeks. During that time you will be required to come to our facility for study visits. The first visit will take a maximum of 3 hours and all subsequent visits will take a maximum of 2 hours per visit. You will also be required to come for a 6 month follow up visit
Participants will receive compensation for their time. Also, if successful, this trial will directly benefit you in helping you quit smoking.
