Psychology has a very active graduate level training program in clinical psychology offering both a residency and a practicum program.
Many psychology staff have cross-appointments at the University of Toronto, including the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry, at OISE/UT, and at York University.
The majority of psychologists at CAMH are actively involved in systematic programmes of research, often funded by external grants. There are a variety of research opportunities available for graduate students, including collection of M.A. and Ph.D. thesis data, as well as post-doctoral positions. Publications by psychology staff can be found in the annual report published by the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto.
There is a Psychology Council at CAMH.
Clinical Psychology Residency Program
CAMH has the country’s largest single site pre-doctoral residency program in clinical psychology accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association (next site visit due summer 2021). This 12-month specialist program currently has 15 full-time funded positions (2 child stream, 11 adult general stream, 1 full-time forensics, and 1 Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Disorders stream). Please be advised that eligible applicants are those enrolled in an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program.
The residency application deadline for the 2021-2022 academic year is November 1st, 2020 at 11:59pm E.S.T.
For information about the rotations offered and the application process, please see the brochure below.
Clinical Psychology Practicum Program
The practicum program is for graduate students who are at earlier stages of their training. There is no “cap” on the number of students who can be accepted, but typically CAMH accepts approximately 15 students a year. Practicum placements typically run two days a week from September to April or four days a week from May to August.
The application deadline for the 2020-2021 academic year is January 31st, 2020 at 11:59 E.S.T. Due to the high volume of practicum applications, individual supervisors will ONLY contact applicants who are invited to an interview. Successful applicants will be notified on the GTA Common Notification Date (to be determined)
