CAMH staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients, and families will celebrate Patient and Family Experience Week 2024 with a week of events and activities to honor the partnerships among patients, families, and staff working together to improve services and care at CAMH and beyond.

Connection Through Expression 

Monday, April 29, 2024 | 3:00 – 5:00 pm 
In-person Event  

Location: RBC Patient and Family Learning Space, McCain Centre for Complex Care and Recovery, 1025 Queen Street West, ground floor.
A portion of this event will be outside the RBC Patient and Family Learning Space (weather permitting).  

Join us as we kick-off Patient and Family Experience Week celebrations with an open house of interactive workshops, activities, games, and opportunities to learn about patient and family experience and engagement at CAMH! Check out the details of what this event has in store below. 

Meet and Greet
Learn about patient and family experience and engagement at CAMH! Meet some of the teams and committees leading patient and family experience and engagement work at CAMH, and learn about how partnerships between patients, families, and staff are advancing the care experience for all at CAMH and beyond! 

First Seed of Spring: Mixed-Media Collage Workshop 
Join us for a creative journey where we merge African fabric collage techniques with gardening to celebrate the arrival of spring. In this workshop, participants will transform plain terracotta plant pots into vibrant pieces of art, perfect for nurturing their season's first seedlings. Each participant will receive soil and seeds to plant in their collaged pots, fostering artistic and botanical growth. 

Pet Therapy
Take a wellness break and spend some time with two of our CAMH therapy dogs! 

Outdoor Games 
Head out to the courtyard to enjoy some fresh air and fun with various outdoor games to choose from. Try your hand at ring toss, bean bag toss or tic-tac-toe!

The New (and improved) CAMH Bill of Patient Rights 

Tuesday, April 30, 2024 | 4:30 – 6:00 pm 
Hybrid Event: In-person and virtual  
Location: Arrell Family Auditorium, 2nd Floor, 1025 Queen Street West and Webex.   

There is no trauma-informed care without patient rights. At this event, we will describe the rights – especially what is new – in the CAMH Bill of Patient Rights. Every right is based on patient/client experience.

Trauma-informed Yoga 

Wednesday, May 1, 2024 | 4:00 – 5:00 pm 
In-person Event 
Location: Patient and Family Learning Space, 1025 Queen Street West, ground floor

Focusing on the relationship between mood management and the mind-body connection, sessions offer a combination of breathing, movement, postures, mindfulness and music.  

Participants will explore the physical, mental and emotional benefits of a yoga practice.  

Improving the mental, psychological and cognitive well-being in both adults and adolescents, yoga can be a positive addition to an effective treatment plan for various conditions and disorders, such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma and addiction. Teachings are trauma-informed and adaptable for all levels. This class is open to everyone!

What’s next for MAiD for Mental Illness? 

Wednesday, May 1, 2024 | 5:15 – 6:45 pm 
Hybrid Event: In-person and virtual 
Location: Arrell Family Foundation Auditorium, 1025 Queen Street West, 2nd Floor

The federal government recently delayed legislation that would have made it possible for people whose only medical condition is mental illness to apply for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). Join a panel of experts to explore what this means for people with lived experience of mental illness, and their families and loved ones.

Sunshine Garden Greenhouse Tour and Compost Workshop

Location: 10 White Squirrel Way  

Join us as we tour CAMH's FoodShare Sunshine Garden Greenhouse and learn about composting. Dr. Javad Mozafari, Garden Coordinator from FoodShare, will share his knowledge about the different strategies for composting and nourishing soil. We will get our hands dirty while we learn together! 

This workshop is hosted in collaboration with FoodShare Toronto.
