This is a study by CAMH, the leading mental health research hospital in Canada. Learn more about what's involved in participating in a study at CAMH Research Connect.
Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide and affects 11% of Canadians. Research in people experiencing depression has shown that using cannabis regularly may increase symptoms of depression.
We are conducting a study to explore if quitting cannabis for 28 days may improve symptoms of depression.
We are seeking participants who:
- are 18-55 years of age
- use cannabis regularly
- are diagnosed with major depressive disorder
- are taking a stable dose of antidepressant medications
Throughout the study, we will evaluate depression, anxiety, sleep, motivation, and thinking. Eligible participants will come to CAMH’s 33 Russell Street site for weekly assessments and will receive behavioural coaching support throughout the abstinence month. There will be a total of 8 study visits.
If participants are successful in quitting cannabis for 28 days, they will receive a monetary bonus. Participants will also receive compensation for their time.
