Medhat Mahdy is the President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Toronto and President of YMCA Ontario. He is a community builder with an extensive background in charitable sector leadership who has been involved with the YMCA as a member, volunteer, donor, and leader for over 40 years. He brings a deep understanding of the social determinants of health, and a conviction that we owe every individual in our communities the opportunity to reach their full potential — physically, mentally and socially.
As President of the YMCA of Greater Toronto, Medhat is the champion of the charity’s Strong Start, Great Future campaign that will bring ten new YMCA Centres of Community to the GTA. He has spearhead the opening of the Cooper Koo Family YMCA, the Toronto Vanauley Street YMCA Centre for homeless and street-involved youth, and YMCA Sprott House for LGBTQ2S+ youth, and is leading the development of three additional Centres of Community currently under construction in the GTA. Each of these initiatives is driven by Medhat’s strong belief in the value of diversity and social inclusion for our communities.
Medhat holds a Bachelor Degree from the University of Toronto and has served on a number of high-profile task forces, including the Government of Ontario’s Healthy Kids Panel. As the leader of the largest not for profit child care provider in Canada, Medhat is committed to advancing the YMCA’s vision of making our communities home to the healthiest children, teens and young adults.
