Program Overview
The Early Psychosis Unit (EPU) is an 18-bed inpatient unit dedicated to the care, treatment and support of young people ages 16-29 who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis.
An interprofessional team of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, a pharmacist, a recreation therapist and a dietician offer rapid access to inpatient care for clients from the Slaight Centre Early Intervention Service, as well as community referrals. The EPU assists individuals and their families with the initial period of recovery and adjustment. It offers primary nursing, assessment, diagnostic clarification and monitoring of symptoms, individual and family education, and individual and group interventions. Discharge planning begins at the time of admission and clients are referred to community services for further support as required.
