Dr. Rand Eid is a scientist in the Brain Health Imaging Centre at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). She received her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of British Columbia and completed postdoctoral training at McGill University before joining CAMH in July 2026 as a womenmind™ and Koerner new scientist.
Dr. Eid’s research is currently supported by a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Research Excellence, Diversity and Independence (REDI) Early Career Transition Award and a Brain & Behavior Research Foundation Young Investigator Grant.
Areas of Research
Hormonal transitions across the female lifespan drive remarkable adaptations in brain and behaviour, but can also mark windows of heightened vulnerability to mental illness. The Eid Lab investigates how the female brain adapts during these transitions, including pregnancy and postpartum, and the neurobiological mechanisms underlying the onset or worsening of mental illness during these periods.
Our translational research connects mechanistic discovery in preclinical models with biomarker identification in humans. We integrate behavioural, molecular and circuit neuroscience approaches in animal models for mood and anxiety disorders to uncover mechanisms of vulnerability during hormonal transitions and reveal potential treatment targets. In parallel, we study blood-based molecular signatures of mental illness in human cohorts. Linking these signatures to findings in animal brain and blood allows us to prioritize biomarkers that are grounded in brain mechanisms. Together, this work aims to improve risk prediction and advance more personalized, mechanism-based prevention and treatment in women's mental health.
