We are inviting older adults who experience depressive symptoms and are living with Alzheimer's disease to participate in a research study exploring a nature-based virtual reality experience. Participants will be randomly assigned to use a virtual reality headset with nature scenes or to watch nature videos. Sessions are 15 minutes, twice a week, for four weeks, completed at home. Participants will complete short questionnaires and wear simple devices. Compensation will be provided.
Eligibility Criteria
You may be able to take part if you:
- 50 years or older
- Have been diagnosed with mild to early-moderate Alzheimer's disease (including mixed dementia)
- Are medically stable and able to take part safely
- Experience mild to moderate depressive symptoms
- Feel comfortable using basic technology, such as a tablet or headset
- Have access to Wi-Fi and a smart device for online sessions and study apps
- Have someone available to be present during all study sessions
You would not be able to take part if you:
- Have a medical or mental health condition that is currently unstable
- Have vision or hearing difficulties that would make participation difficult
- Experience severe depressive symptoms or active thoughts of self-harm
