Leila Johnson is a certified Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F), a certified Yoga Therapist from Loyola Marymount University, and is the Founder of FOLK Ayurveda. She has also competed The Traumatic Stress Studies Program from The Trauma Center at JRI and obtained an Associates Degree in Theatre, Voice & Movement from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, which also influences her movement programs for children. Leila has been working as a yoga educator since 2004 with a special focus on Prenatal-TCTSY, children in marginalized communities, and working with women and children affected by war or those fleeing conflict and oppression. Selected work experience includes implementing movement & mindfulness programs into a children’s rehabilitation center in Addis, Ethiopia and working with former child-soldiers in both Bogotá and Medellín, Colombia. Leila offered movement, somatic play, and imagination work for children at a UN Refugee Camp near the Lebanon-Syrian border. Currently, Leila is collaborating with the Village of Laxgalts’ap in Nass Valley, B.C., so to help create ongoing movement and mindfulness programs that also incorporate cultural representation for Indigenous Peoples.
