Tell us a bit about yourself, and your role here at CAMH.
My name is Lenord Quan and I have been in the food industry all of my life. My grandfather was a cook. My mother worked for many food companies. At CAMH, I work in dietary. When I first worked in dietary, I was a porter, then assistant baker. After a couple of years, I became the baker. While I am not the Ingredient Control person, one of my responsibilities is to order food, as well as put all of the food away.
Can you talk a bit about what prompted you to work in healthcare, specifically mental health? How did you wind up working at CAMH?
My ex-supervisor started working at Queen Street Mental Health Centre, which later became CAMH. She told me to apply to dietary services. I wanted the job so bad that I wore a suit and a tie to a porter job. LOL!
Can you share a moment or an experience where you felt fulfilled about the work you do at CAMH?
When I would go to the floor and serve the food to the clients, they would thank me every day. They had a smile on their face and that would make me feel fulfilled.
What keeps you motivated or what drives you to continue to do your best in the work that you do?
What drives me to continue to do my best is to treat the clients as if they were a relative or my best friend.
