Temerty Discovery Centre:
- Installation of the building’s distinctive glass curtain wall is continuing and will advance steadily over the summer months up to level 07/08, helping enclose the building and improve weather protection.
- Interior activities are increasing throughout the building, including mechanical, electrical and plumbing installations, drywall, framing and other interior finishing work.
- Major building equipment deliveries and installations will continue periodically through July and August as building systems are advanced.
- Civil drainage and Landscaping will commence along the East between the building and the heritage wall.
Waverley House Secure Care & Recovery Building:
- The concrete structure has reached level 8.
- The structural steel work is ongoing into the fall.
- The building envelope and interior finishes have started, continuing through 2026.
Other activities:
- Both projects have celebrated the topping-off - a significant milestone in building completion!
- Later this summer, work will restart to refurbish the heritage wall, heritage shed and roof.
- Roadwork has begun to extend Lower Ossington Avenue south from Stokes Street to Adelaide Street.
- Sidewalk and landscaping work near the Doctors Association Building (101 Stokes Street) has started.
- Waterproofing and sealing work may cause temporary odours, including tar/rubber and epoxy, in and around areas of our Queen Street site. While these smells can be unpleasant, they are a normal part of the work and isn't a safety risk.
- As we increase the work taking place inside the buildings, there will be an increasing number of trade workers and contractors on-site.
Irregular Work Schedules
Most of our redevelopment construction work will adhere to City of Toronto Bylaws, which permits operation of construction equipment Monday to Friday from 7am to 7pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 7pm.
In the event of irregular work schedules, we are committed to informing the local community in advance whenever possible. Overnight work is always a last resort and used only when necessary to maintain construction or hospital operations. We apologize for any disruption and are committed to minimizing impacts on our neighbours wherever possible.
Completion
We expect the Temerty Discovery Centre to reach completion in late 2027 and the Waverley House Secure Care & Recovery Building to reach completion in 2029.
These buildings will transform the care and treatment we can provide for some of our most vulnerable patients and will further research and discoveries that will improve the lives of people living with mental illness. We know once completed, these two buildings will generate hope and transform mental health care and research at CAMH and beyond. The final site will also include additional public, open green spaces for the community to use.
