Media guidelines

Respecting client / patient confidentiality

At CAMH we are committed to supporting the fundamental rights of the clients/patients we serve. Confidentiality is especially important given the issues that we deal with as an organization. As a result, we have policies regarding media access to our sites and clients. Our policies cover such things as guidelines for interviewing patients/clients and employees, taking photographs or invading the privacy of individuals or the hospital without the permission of the hospital or client/patient.

The following rules must be followed when on site:

  • No media cameras are allowed on site without prior approval from Public Affairs
  • No patients/clients can be in a photograph or news footage without prior expressed written consent from the patient/client
  • While on a CAMH site, a CAMH staff person or designate must escort members of the media at all times

Before interviewing any of our experts or visiting the site, it is important that all media members contact the Public Affairs department at 416 595-6015 or e-mail
