Areas of Research
Dr. Cunningham works in the intersection between clinical and community prevention research, surveying people who have a drinking problem and exploring the reasons for change with individuals who have recovered. His current focus is problem drinkers who do not seek treatment in a clinical setting. He is modifying well-validated interventions into formats that can be used outside of formal treatment programs as well as evaluating their effectiveness in a community setting. Recent examples of Dr. Cunningham’s self-help programs can be seen at www.alcoholhelpcenter.net.
