Dr. Stephanie Ameis is a senior scientist and the associate director of the Cundill Centre for Child and Youth Depression at CAMH and is appointed to the Child and Youth Mental Health Collaborative at CAMH, the University of Toronto and SickKids. She is also an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
She collaborates closely with the Temerty Centre for Therapeutic Brain Intervention, the Kimel Family Translational Imaging-Genetics Laboratory and the Azrieli Adult Neurodevelopmental Centre at CAMH.
Areas of Research
Dr. Ameis’ research spans across: (1) neuroimaging research, studying biological mechanisms related to clinical symptoms, social cognition, neurocognition and behaviour across transdiagnostic samples, including children, youth and young adults with a variety of mental health challenges, (2) interventional research, focused on studying novel interventions to treat mental health symptoms in youth, and (3) implementation science and knowledge translation to improve uptake of research findings in her work with the Cundill Centre for Child and Youth Depression. Dr. Ameis has a particular interest in developing evidence-based interventions to address depression and suicidal thinking in autistic youth.
The main goals of Dr. Ameis’ research are to: 1) identify brain-based biomarkers of childhood mental illness, 2) understand how existing and novel (i.e., medications, behavioural therapies, brain stimulation) interventions/treatments work using advanced brain imaging approaches, 3) identify biomarkers of treatment response using longitudinal brain imaging to personalize treatments for children and adolescents with mental illness, and 4) share knowledge of evidence-based interventions with local and international stakeholders.
