Dr. Alex Abramovich is an Independent Scientist with the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research at CAMH.
Areas of Research
Dr. Alex Abramovich has been addressing the issue of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and 2-Spirit (LGBTQ2S) youth homelessness for the past 10 years. He is an internationally recognized leader in the area of LGBTQ2S youth homelessness, and is one of few Canadian researchers studying the phenomenon of queer and trans youth homelessness. He is also interested in health care, homophobia and transphobia, mental health and service needs of marginalized populations, community engagement and film-based methods.
Dr. Abramovich’s research is grounded in the elements of critical action research, critical ethnography and institutional ethnography. He is committed to research that successfully and ethically engages marginalized populations.
Dr. Abramovich collaborates with numerous community agencies and key stakeholders, including municipal and provincial governments. He is also involved in knowledge translation through media interviews.
