From providing councelling to clients and their families to coordinating heath services and helping clients with day-to-day living, social workers play in integral role in health care, especially for those living with mental health and addiction problems.
A profession that started as volunteers who visited people in the community and offered support has become a crucial role in health care, helping clients and families navigate the system, overcome barriers, and live better lives. Social workers work with clients where they work and live, focusing on people’s strengths and take into account the social, emotional and economic factors that can negatively impact health and social well-being. Social workers also advocate for change to improve social conditions that restrict access to equitable services that and limit opportunities for people to achieve their goals.
Social Work Week runs from March 4-10 and this year’s theme is Social Workers Help People Get Back on Track. For more information, please visit the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
