CAMH named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 2011

For immediate release – February 21, 2011 (Toronto) – The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers 2011. CAMH was named one of Greater Toronto's Top Employers for 2011, as well.
CAMH has had a formal diversity strategy for over 10 years, focussing on client service issues and enhancing an inclusive culture and community within the organization.
 Rigorous selection criteria were met based on data from employee surveys, workforce profile, strategic planning, training, communications, and benefits initiatives. Concrete examples of projects, policies and partnerships on a range of diversity issues were provided for consideration, including: 
  • diversity indicators as a mandatory part of performance reviews
  • a foundational diversity and health equity course for all staff
  • involving various staff-led caucuses in our change agenda including the CAMH LGBTQ caucus, the Unusual Suspects (staff with mental health and addiction histories), the women’s caucus list serve and others;
  • our employment equity strategy including bias-free hiring tools and training; 
  • the successes of CAMH Employment Works! (our recruitment and retention initiative targeted to recruit staff with lived experience of mental health and/or addiction challenges)
  • an accessibility plan that gets stronger each year.
