Sunshine Garden is bringing the harvest to market

The Sunshine Garden Market is open for the 2015 season!

On Monday, July 20 the market at the southwest corner of Queen Street West and Gordon Bell Street began offering fresh produce from the Foodshare-facilitated Sunshine Garden, run in partnership with CAMH.

The market operates Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. throughout the summer.

“Please check out our freshly grown organic kale, mesclun salad mix, beets, radishes and garlic,” said coordinator Liz Kirk. “We also have sugar snap peas and pod peas, assorted herbs, local honey, green tomato chutney, salsa, herbal vinegars and much more!”

The Sunshine Garden program has encouraged CAMH clients with an interest in gardening to participate in planning, planting, watering and weeding the green space at the south end of the CAMH Queen Streetcampus. The program uses horticulture as a way to provide clients with transferable skills, like teamwork and entrepreneurship. There are also therapeutic benefits to working in the garden.

All funds raised from sales go towards helping support the program.
