Education Strategic Plan

Education Strategy: 2017-2021

In June 2012, CAMH launched CAMH Vision 2020: tomorrow. today, to define its vision as a progressive, 21st century academic health sciences centre.

A key component of this Strategic Plan is Strategic Direction 5 – Revolutionize Education and Knowledge Exchange. CAMH embarked upon this vision to create the CAMH Education Strategy, 2013–2016 which was designed to transform CAMH into a global educational leader and a model mental health and addiction learning organization. The ambition was to build an organization where everyone is a teacher and a learner—where we would provide everyone with the opportunity to be the best teacher they could be, and ensure the highest quality experience for all learners.

Through the lifespan of our first CAMH Education Strategy we have achieved some major milestones together, including the launch of our Student and Simulation centres, creation of an education scholarship program and network across CAMH, the launch of Portico Network and formation of its national editorial board, and the launch of Thought Spot, Saying When and Psychiatry in Primary Care mobile application.

We are looking forward to what the future will bring. CAMH has recently renewed its Education strategy (PDF), reaffirming our commitment to continuous improvement and to developing high‐quality educational products based on evidence, evaluation and research to support Vision 2020 corporate strategy. As an academic health sciences centre and a growing learning‐organization, it is essential that we create new knowledge and innovations and share these best practices broadly across CAMH, the mental health and addiction system and the community. We believe that a focus on quality and safety will improve patient care.

The CAMH Education Strategy 2017-2021 will continue to lead the achievement of the Vision 20/20 LEARN Goal by:

  • Improving the quality of care through education
  • Leading inspired learning through inspired teaching
  • Driving mental health advocacy through education.

While developing these proposed strategic priorities, we felt it was very important to emphasize the foundations that support every element of that work, including:

  • research and education scholarship
  • evaluation
  • operational effectiveness and business development.
