Portfolio of education offerings

CAMH’s continuing mental health education (CMHE) courses and events offer family physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and other health-care providers award-winning inter-professional addiction and mental health education through a variety of modalities. CMHE courses and events are accredited through various governing bodies.

In addition to CMHE, CAMH also offers a wide range of online and classroom courses aimed at professionals in all health-related disciplines, including community-based professionals such as police officers, firefighters, teachers, armed forces personnel and counselors.

CAMH also partners with internal and external stakeholders to create customized program development to meet specific needs.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: Problem Based Learning

This course is designed to address the frequent problem areas encountered when treating patients with multiple co-occurring disorders. The aim of this course is to provide clinicians with consultation on applying DBT to manage problematic behaviours whether or not the clinician is involved in or plans to implement a comprehensive DBT program. There will be an emphasis on practice exercises, role plays and experiential exercises to help clinicians learn effective strategies.

The pre-requisite for this course is DBT: Intermediate Level Training.

Cognitive Therapy Summer Training Institute

Treating psychiatric problems can be challenging but fortunately there are effective psychotherapies that can help. In cognitive therapy, people explore and identify how attitudes, beliefs, expectations, and automatic thoughts can produce and maintain unpleasant moods. The first step towards change involves becoming aware of self defeating thinking styles and behavioural patterns. The next step involves experimenting with new ways of looking at things and/or trying out new patterns of behaviour. The focus in this short term treatment is on the here and now.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: Supervised Applications

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: Supervised Applications is a practical, hands on course designed to provide in-depth knowledge and skills in DBT through supervision of videotapes or audiotapes from the participants’ own practice. The aim of this course is to help clinicians apply DBT strategies to their individual sessions, whether or not the clinician is involved in or plans to implement a comprehensive DBT program. Each session will consist of small group case supervision. The pre-requisite for this course is “DBT: Problem Based Learning”.
