Early Psychosis Unit (EPU)

The Early Psychosis Unit (EPU) is an 18-bed inpatient unit dedicated to the care, treatment and support of young people who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. An interprofessional team of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, a pharmacist, a recreation therapist, and a dietician offer rapid access to inpatient care for clients from the First Episode Psychosis Clinic, First Assessment Clinical Team – Peel and the Home Intervention Program as well as community referrals. The EPU unit assists individuals and their families with the initial period of recovery and adjustment.  It offers primary nursing, assessment and monitoring of symptoms, individual and family education, and individual and group interventions.
