ViiA7 Real-time PCR machine -  The ViiA7 Real-time PCR machine has two main functions.  First, the instrument can genotype amplified products for biallelic markers in either 96- and 384-well format. Copy number variantion and gene expression analyses can also be conducted on the ViiA7 in 96- or 384-well format in approximately one hour.  Our ViiA7 has the extra capability of being able to run and analyze TaqMan cards for miRNA panel analysis.

TaqMan® OpenArray® Genotyping System – This high-throughput system provides PCR-based endpoint analysis of over 18,000 genotypes across multiple markers in half a business day.  The technology uses very small reaction volumes, thereby decreasing time and cost as compared to conventional methods. The system comprises OpenArray® AccuFill, OpenArray® Case Sealing Station, OpenArray® NT Imager, BarCode Reader, and a computer.
 
SOLiDTM 5500 System - based on sequencing by oligonucleotide ligation and detection, is a revolutionary genetic analysis platform for ultra high-throughput DNA analysis (up to 100 GB of mappable sequence or 1.4 billion reads per run).
 
Ion PGM - based on semiconductor analysis, the Ion PGM offers flexibility, speed and inexpensive medium-throughput deep resequencing options.  The Ion PGM can process 10 Mb, 100 Mb or 1 Gb of DNA sequence in one day.
 
Ion Proton - The Ion Proton offers the same benefits as the Ion PGM, with increased throughput options of 10 Gb or 100 Gb of DNA sequence.
 
Nucleic acid extraction and quality control - Nucleic acid purification is performed at CAMH using several techniques, under quality controlled conditions, from a wide variety of specimens such as saliva, blood, tissues and cultured cells. We have an automated DNA extractor, to increase sample throughput, decrease genotyping turn-around-times, and maintain a high standard of quality control by minimizing human error at critical stages of the analysis process.
 
Applied Biosystems 3130 Genetic Analyzer – This system can be used to genotype fragments of up to ~2500 bp.  This sytem uses fluorescent technology, which enables users to pool up to four different products together for simultaneous analysis, thereby increasing turn-around time and decreasing cost.  The 3130 can also be used for Sanger sequencing applications up to 1 kb in length.
