The occupational therapy council at the Centre consists of a wide range of professional group with the focus on function and learning effective community living skills. The professional groups include occupational therapy, music therapy, art therapy, stress management therapy, as well as art instructors and activationists.
Occupational Therapists are integral members of wide range clinical multidisciplinary teams at CAMH. Occupational Therapists at CAMH are also employed in a range of management, teaching and leadership capacities. CAMH requires that all occupational therapists be eligible and maintain their register requirements with the College of Occupational Therapist of Ontario (COTO). Occupational therapists must provide annual proof of membership in good standing with the COTO. For information about registration requirements, please see www.coto.org. Art therapists and music therapists are also required to show proof of registration with the relevant national professional organization. Stress management therapists are also encouraged to maintain the needed affiliations to organizations that support the standards and professional development.
Occupational therapy has a very active student education and training program. Although preference is given to providing placement for students from occupational therapy program at the University of Toronto, CAMH provides clinical placements for occupational therapy students from educational programs approved by the World Federation of Occupational Therapy across Canada as well as international locations. There are two student coordinators who remain an important resource to both the students and therapists during their placement. Currently, the Student Coordinators are Biraj Khosla and Bice Amoroso.
Occupational Therapists at CAMH work very closely with our partners at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto. Several therapists are involved in curriculum development, research and training.
