Therapeutic Recreation is a process that utilizes functional intervention, education and recreation participation to enable persons with physical, cognitive, emotional and or social limitations to acquire and/or maintain the skills, knowledge and behaviours that will allow them to enjoy leisure optimally, function independently with the least amount of assistance and participate as fully as possible in society. Therapeutic recreation intervention is provided by trained professionals in clinical and community settings.
What placements are available in your discipline?
We have placement opportunities in all clinical program areas both inpatient and outpatient.
Am I able to do a block placement?
Yes.
Am I able to do my placement hours in the evenings/weekends because I work?
That would depend on which program you are doing the internship in. We try to be as flexible as possible to meet your needs.
Am I able to split my placement between 2 programs (i.e, Addictions Program and MAUI)?
Yes, in fact we highly recommend this.
What qualifications are required for placement?
Current enrollment in a recreation therapy program at a post secondary institution. We accept students from both university and community colleges.
Is CAMH affiliated with my educational institution?
CAMH currently has affiliation agreements with the following:

Fanshaw College
Niagara College
I’m not from Canada. Can I still do a placement at CAMH?
Yes, but we would need to arrange for an affiliation agreement with the post secondary institution offering a program in Recreation Therapy.
How do I apply for a placement at CAMH?
Please do this through your Professor in charge of your placement.
What mandatory trainings are required prior to placement?
Mask Fit testing, CPR, AED
Do I require any immunizations before coming to CAMH?
You will need proof of a current TB test.
Will I require a police check?
No.
