With the Connected CAMH strategic plan for 2024–2030, Education at CAMH is reaffirming our commitment to continuous improvement and to developing education products and services based on the latest evidence, evaluation and research. 

Education will share our work under Connected CAMH with a focus on building system-level partnerships and collaborations across different sectors. The CAMH Global Learning Academy

The CAMH Global Learning Academy is a world-class learning experience for diverse learners, including clinical providers, allied health professionals, patients, families, and the public. It is for anyone who wants mental health education that is expert-led, evidence-based, and practical.

Through our CPD courses, professionals can gain the specialized knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to better handle on-the-job situations involving people with mental health issues. Whether you're looking to enhance clinical skills, strengthen your team’s approach, or learn more about mental health and addiction, this is where your next chapter begins.

Trauma-Informed De-Escalation Education for Safety and Self-Protection (TIDES)

TIDES training aims to develop your skills in preventing and responding to challenging situations, specifically where someone is becoming anxious, agitated or even violent. 

Our training helps you become more trauma-informed and use techniques of collaborative de-escalation and holistic crisis response. We strengthen your skills in assessing environments, building positive relationships and collaborating within a team during these situations.

CAMH Simulation Centre

The CAMH Simulation Centre is North America's first simulation centre focused on teaching, research and quality improvement at all levels of mental health education. Simulation is an innovative education modality that replicates real-life situations so learners can practice in a controlled environment.

We specialize in mental health simulation-based education, which uses simulated participants (actors), high-fidelity manikins, and virtual reality to deliver scenarios that realistically simulate the world of mental health care.

We are continuously evaluating new methods and processes to improve the quality of care through education. These innovative practices result in health professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to ensure the best possible outcomes for their patients.

Clinical & Research Opportunities
As a specialty hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, CAMH is a global leader in professional training and education opportunities across the clinical and research spectrum for mental illness, including addiction.

Each year we provide placements for nearly 600 undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students who want to join the movement to find better solutions and treatments for mental health. It's an opportunity that attracts the best and brightest minds.

CAMH Student Centre

The CAMH Student Centre was created to support learners from all disciplines as they gain hands-on experience in clinical and professional settings. As a fully affiliated teaching hospital with the University of Toronto and a partner of the University Health Network, CAMH offers over 2,000 student placements annually, providing diverse learning opportunities in medicine, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, psychology, recreation therapy, and more.

In addition to student placements, CAMH also provides Observership opportunities for learners looking to gain exposure to clinical environments and mental health care practices.

The RBC Patient and Family Learning Space

The PFLS is an interactive hub for patients, families and the community to access reliable information about mental health, substance use and recovery. We offer our services in-person and virtually, and our resources are available in print, web and app format.

Through the PFLS, patients, families and anyone interested can attend interactive workshops and webinars, and discover a variety of community-based services that might help in understanding and recovery.

Collaborative Learning College

The Collaborative Learning College is a recovery college that offers non clinical-based education and training programs to people who have experience with mental health, substance use and/or addiction challenges, and who feel ready to set goals, gain skills and make social connections as part of their personal journey.

CAMH Library

Open to professionals and the general public, our comprehensive resources and services support and enhance CAMH's research and clinical programs, and they facilitate learning, dynamic knowledge exchange and health promotion initiatives. As an important contributor to CAMH's provincial role, the library also provides reference services to the public, along with access to a selection of print books, research reports and documents.  

Education, Evaluation & Quality Improvement

The Evaluation Team supports CAMH in meeting its education evaluation and quality improvement needs. Our team focuses on four core areas: helping education teams assess and enhance their programs; providing evaluation expertise to CAMH-wide initiatives; collecting and analyzing data to support reporting requirements; and assisting external partners with evaluation and quality improvement.

Workplace Mental Health Workshops and Consulting Services

CAMH’s workplace mental health workshops and consulting services help leaders and staff recognize the indicators, apply the tools, and build the confidence to successfully address mental health issues and build psychological health and safety in the workplace.  

ECHO Ontario Mental Health

ECHO Ontario Mental Health is a virtual training and capacity building model that supports healthcare providers in delivering high quality, evidence-based mental health and addictions care in their local communities. Through multipoint videoconferencing, ECHO Ontario Mental Health links expert inter-disciplinary teams with front line care providers in order to share best practices, jointly discuss practical recommendations for complex client care, and build sustainable communities of practice.
