Until now, individuals from Newfoundland and Labrador requiring insured transition-related surgery had to travel to CAMH to complete a readiness assessment. Starting November 4, 2019, individuals from Newfoundland and Labrador requiring insured transition-related surgeries are now able to complete a readiness assessment in Newfoundland and Labrador from a World Professional Association for Transgender Health Standards of Care (WPATH) trained health care provider. Individuals in Newfoundland and Labrador requiring insured transition-related surgery are no longer required to travel to CAMH to complete a readiness assessment.

2. What should I do if I’m already on the CAMH waitlist?
CAMH will honor the referrals made before November 4, 2019 from any individuals from Newfoundland and Labrador who choose to remain on CAMH’s waitlist.
CAMH has contacted your referring doctor informing them of the change, and have requested they consult with you to determine whether you want to complete a readiness assessment in Newfoundland and Labrador or remain on the CAMH waitlist. You or your doctor can inform us if you want to stay on the CAMH waitlist or be removed in order to complete a readiness assessment in Newfoundland and Labrador.
It is your choice to come to CAMH or seek services in Newfoundland and Labrador, as it is no longer a requirement from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Ministry of Health and Community Services.

Yes, please inform your doctor if you want to be removed from the CAMH waitlist. CAMH has contacted your doctor and provided them with a form they can fax back to CAMH to remove your name from the waitlist. You or your doctor can also call CAMH directly and cancel your referral at 416-535-8501 ext. 30985.
