Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has become a preferred procedure for research into brain structure and functioning. In general, MRI creates pictures that can show differences between healthy and unhealthy tissues.

If you are interested in conducting a study using MRI at CAMH, you will need to include a CAMH Principal Investigator on your application. You can access relevant forms and information here.  Please review the informed consent template for MRI studies at CAMH.

To date, over 150 million patients have had MRI examinations. Every year, approximately 10 million patients undergo MRI procedures. MRI has been shown to be extremely safe as long as proper safety precautions are taken. In general, the MRI procedure produces no pain and causes no known short-term or long-term tissue damage of any kind.
