CAMH is renovating and expanding its Emergency Department and Emergency Assessment Unit. Construction to CAMH’s old auditorium has been occurring since April 2013 to transform this space into part of overall finished ED and EAU area. Between April 26, 2014 and the end of August 2014 we will start Phase 2 of construction.
This renovation is a response to the exponential growth in the need for emergency psychiatric services that our sector has experienced over the last few years. This renovation will double the space of CAMH`s Emergency Department, and replace an outmoded ED with therapeutic spaces that are safe, efficient and designed for high quality interprofessional care.
CAMH`s ED and EAU will continue to operate throughout the four-month renovation project. CAMH has prepared a renovation plan that will minimize the disruption caused by the construction.
During the four month renovation period people coming to the CAMH Emergency Department may experience longer than normal wait times. Everyone presenting to our Emergency Department will receive the services they require.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation while we endeavor to minimize the disruption to patients, families, staff and the community during the April-August renovation period. We look forward to welcoming you at the end of the summer to a newly renovated and expanded CAMH Emergency Department that will enable us to care for more patients in a more efficient, safe and therapeutic environment.
