New approach to treating major depression with alcohol addiction

About 20% of people addicted to alcohol suffer from major depression as well.  Having coexisting conditions - called a ‘concurrent disorder’- can be very difficult for the patient and complicated to treat effectively.

The good news is that CAMH has developed an “Integrated Care Pathway” specifically for people with a concurrent diagnosis of  Major Depression and Alcohol Dependence. An interdisciplinary care team provides the patient with evidence-based interventions that are personalized, optimized and sequenced over a 16 week period to achieve the best outcome possible for the individual patient. The new pathway is being evaluated and assessed for continuous improvement, but the results so far have been positive.
