We are pleased to announce the
launch of the Diana Capponi Client Education Fund in honour of Diana’s
legacy as a CAMH employee and a leader and activist in her community.
Diana joined CAMH in 2004 as the
inaugural Employment Works! Coordinator. She believed fervently that work not
only provided a pay cheque but confidence and purpose as well. Diana believed
that having people with lived experience of mental health and addiction issues
fill professional positions, both at CAMH and within the community, would help
eliminate stigma and discrimination. In her life, she reached thousands of
people through her work as a public educator, speaking frequently at
workplaces, conferences and teaching courses. Her obituary was featured in The
Toronto Star and The
Globe and Mail.
Diana often spoke about how
critical education was for her own recovery journey – as it is for many others.
The establishment of The Diana Capponi Client Education Fund furthers her
vision to create opportunities for low-income clients to pursue education and
enhance employment opportunities.
This is a dedicated fund. All
donations will be used exclusively for the Diana Capponi Fund.
The first allocation of the award will take place in
fall 2015. In keeping with the spirit of the award, 50 percent of people on the
allocation committee will be people with lived experience.
