Additional Referral Details
Referral required: Patients admitted to the program are in judicially mandated custody, and patients are only admitted as a result of a judicial order or an Ontario Review Board Disposition Order.
The assessments are predominantly in relation to criminal "fitness" to stand trial and issues of criminal responsibility. However, the mandate of the program extends to assessing individuals convicted of various crimes and providing opinions related to pre-sentence evaluation. The program also provides limited beds for provision of psychiatric treatment for patients deemed "unfit" by the judicial system and placed on judicial Treatment Orders. Frequently, individuals falling under the auspices of the Ontario Review Board are initially admitted to the unit for stabilization or assessment prior to transfer to appropriate longer term treatment/rehabilitation inpatient units.
