This course provides key information on the complexity of opioid dependence, the interprofessional collaboration required, the regulations and policies in Ontario that govern how health care providers are to provide treatment for opioid dependence, and recommendations for effective communication with pharmacists.
Explain the pharmacology of opioids and how they affect the brain.
Explain the difference between abstinence-based treatment, withdrawal management, and methadone and buprenorphine maintenance treatment.
Comply with methadone and buprenorphine dispensing policies.
Indicate the role that counselling and case management play in methadone and buprenorphine maintenance treatment.
Discuss the importance of interprofessional collaboration when providing opioid dependence treatment with methadone and buprenorphine.
This is a self-paced, online course. The course is comprised of five modules, and learners have one month to complete the course.
