Public Transportation

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is a quick, convenient and safe way to get around Toronto. Payment methods for using the TTC include:
 • Cash (have the exact fare ready)
 •  Tickets or tokens (cheaper and more convenient than paying cash, and you can buy them at any subway station or any store displaying the ticket agent sign)
  • Daily/weekly/monthly metro pass: purchase them from ticket agents, subway station collectors or machines. Monthly passes are transferable and you get a tax credit (keep your pass for tax purposes).

Children under 24 months ride for free. Children (12 and under) and students (19 and under) need a TTC Student Discount Card.

Driving in Ontario /Registering your Vehicle

Your foreign driver's license is valid for three months after your arrival. In order to obtain an Ontario driver's license, you have to pass a knowledge test, a vision examination and a road test (holders of licenses obtained in some countries are exempt). A driver's license also serves as a picture ID card. Visit the Ministry of Transportation website for more information.
