Late-Life Depression Studies

Incomplete Response in Late Life Depression: Getting to Remission (IRL-GRey) - The purpose of this study funded by the US NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) is to identify better ways to treat depression in older adults. The study will test whether patients who have an incomplete response to venlafaxine XR would benefit from the addition of aripiprazole. It seeks to examine the benefits of combining these medications in older adults who have failed to get well on one medication alone.

Sustaining Remission of psychotic Depression (STOP-PD II) --
The purpose of this study funded by U.S. NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) is to compare the combination of sertraline and olanzapine with sertraline monotherapy in preventing relapse/recurrence of remitted psychotic (delusional) depression.

Effects of Maintenance Treatment with Olanzapine vs. Placebo on Brain Structure
- The main aim of this neuroimaging study is to assess potential brain changes associated with olanzapine treatment. This study has been designed to align with the STOP-PD II study, and thereby impact clinical practice by providing information regarding the potential effects on brain structure and connectivity of antipsychotic maintenance treatment in patients with mood disorders.
