Dear community members and partners,
The CAMH Adult Gender Identity Clinic (GIC) is now pleased to have consolidated office space at the College Street site. This has been a long time in the making and we’re happy to have our clinical team together.
The DSM-5 was published this Spring and this brings with it the diagnostic change from Gender Identity Disorder to Gender Dysphoria. We welcome this change as it depathologizes gender identity and puts greater emphasis on the distress experienced by our clients, while continuing to ensure treatment access.
We continue to be actively involved in the training of clinicians and other providers. We are part of the Rainbow Health Ontario trainings taking place in various parts of Ontario, focused on building provider competence and confidence. We are pleased to be welcoming a new Psychology practicum student, and to have the ongoing benefit of a longer term trainee, now a Psychologist in Supervised Practice. We also expect a number of Psychiatry residents to complete rotations with us this year.
We are also very pleased to announce our most recent staff changes. Consulting psychiatrist Dr. Julie Henderson will be with us one morning every other month. Dr. Henderson completed her residency at CAMH and brings solid experience working with queer and trans communities as well as special training in addictions. Christina Yager, MSW, will be joining our team from Rainbow Services over the next six months, as part of a pilot project to initiate telephone intakes for our clients, as well as to provide additional direct service. Our learning from this pilot project will help us to continue to improve our service. Dr. Nicola Brown and Dr. Barbara Mancini (Psychologist in Supervised Practice) will be job sharing the staff psychologist position at the clinic. Dr. Mancini completed her internship and post-doctoral work at CAMH. She brings broad experience working with youth and families, as well as queer and trans communities.
Clinic Head and psychiatrist Dr. Christopher McIntosh and our manager, Brenda Finlayson along with the rest of the clinic staff welcome you to the clinic. We look forward to meeting you and working with you.
