The Day Detox (Outpatient Withdrawal Service) is an important option for patients who want to stop drinking or using opiates, and who may not be able to attend inpatient programs. Patients may have tried unsuccessfully to quit or cut down on their own.
Offered by CAMH’s Addiction Medicine Service, the Day Detox provides a safe, comfortable environment for expert care and medically-managed withdrawal.
Patients arrive at 8:30 a.m. and leave in the mid-afternoon. The program stresses follow-up, appropriate medications, and relapse prevention to support patients’ recovery.
The Day Detox has capacity for 5 to 10 patients each week, typically referred from CAMH programs including its Emergency Department.
Referral required: No, but for clients who are self-referred, the first appointment will be a medical assessment.
Location: 100 Stokes Street, CAMH’s Queen Street site.
