CAMH is one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2015

CAMH has been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, the second time that our hospital has been awarded this national recognition, having previously won this honour in 2009. Winning employers are featured in a special editorial supplement published by the Globe and Mail today, November 4.

As an employer, CAMH is considered to have a very competitive benefits package and progressive policies, but what makes this workplace stand out is a unique culture that makes CAMH a special place to work.

This includes a culture of inclusivity, where people of all backgrounds and from all communities are made to feel welcome and included. CAMH’s “Employment Works!” program for hiring people with lived experience with mental illness and addiction, our diversity celebrations and our support for LGBTQ pride are just threeready examples.

People who work at CAMH also have a dedicated sense of purpose: to help people with mental illness and addiction transform their lives, and to support the broader CAMH goal of driving social change. This is a ‘higher calling’ that gives each day more meaning than simply working for a paycheque.

“A CAMH promise is that anyone who touches the organization -- for whatever reason and in whatever way -- will become an advocate for mental health,” says Dr. Catherine Zahn, CAMH’s President and CEO.

Leading-edge initiatives intended to improve patient care and the workplace at CAMH include Access CAMH, the new ‘one front door’ to clients and families looking for healthcare services; the ‘big bang’ introduction of I-CARE, an advanced health information system; the launch of a number of “Integrated Care Pathways”, a new streamlined model of structured inter professional patient care;  and making the entire hospital campus Tobacco Free, also contribute to CAMH’s unique and progressive workplace culture.

Winning this award is recognition for the hard work that each and every one of our staff members continuously deliver.

“I consider it a privilege and an honour to work for the staff at CAMH,” says Dr. Zahn. “They are the experts and they're deeply dedicated to our purpose, and to the people we serve. As an organization, we’ll continue to strive for a workplace that’s filled with optimism, opportunity and a oneness of purpose.”
