The surprising struggle to put food on the table

The Report on Household Food Insecurity in Canada, released July 30, found that one in eight Canadian households couldn't access sufficient food in 2011. As well, more than 1.1 million children, or one in six, were living in a home where people reported struggling to put food on the table.

Dr. Catherine Mah, CAMH Fellow in Mental Health and Food Security and Dr. Jürgen Rehm, Director of CAMH’s Social and Epidemiological Research Department are analysis leads on PROOF--  an interdisciplinary, internationally-based group of researchers, public sector and national non-governmental organizations working on a five-year research program funded by CIHR. The research program aims to identify effective policy approaches to improve household food insecurity in Canada.
