TEACH Helping Pregnant Women Quit Smoking: A Woman-Centred Approach

This course is held under the auspices of the Office of Continuing Education and Professional Development, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, Ontario.

Description/Learning objectives

This specialized course will allow participants to increase their knowledge about tobacco use, screening, assessment and interventions to apply with women who smoke across the lifespan.

After completing this workshop, you will be able to:

List the sex and gender differences in smoking prevalence.
Choose optimal tobacco cessation and/or reduction strategies for women across the lifespan.
Understand the implications of using pharmacotherapy to quit smoking during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Understand how partner and other supports for quitting can impact practice.

Please note you must have taken the TEACH Project’s three-day core course, A Comprehensive Course on Smoking Cessation: Essential Skills and Strategies, or have attended the University of Massachusetts or Mayo Clinic training before you can be accepted into this course.
