Psychiatric Pharmacogenetics in Clinical Practice

Description

Pharmacogenetics is an area of personalized medicine that aims to provide safer‚ more efficient‚ and customized drug therapies based on an individual’s unique genetic (i.e., DNA) profile. This workshop will focus on:
 
  • optimizing psychiatric drug treatment using genetic information and considering drug-drug interactions
  • providing an introduction to psychiatric pharmacogenetics
  • expanding into the clinical applications of pharmacogenetics in the treatment of mental illness and addictions.

Objectives

  • Discuss the scientific rationale and methods for pharmacogenetic testing in psychiatry.
  • Identify and discuss benefits of pharmacogenetic testing to optimize patient care outcomes by reducing side effects and improving drug responses.
  • Apply knowledge of psychiatric genetics in the decision-making process through case-based scenarios.

Pharmacogenetics in Clinical Practice Program Overview

Audience

This course is intended for health care providers interested in enhancing their knowledge of psychiatric pharmacogenetics. This includes:
  • health care professionals in psychiatry, family medicine, pediatrics, neurology and geriatrics
  • residents and postdoctoral pharmacy/medical students
  • scientists and research staff investigators
  • hospital administrators.

Cancellation of Courses
CAMH reserves the right to cancel any program due to under-enrolment, or any course due to work stoppages, instructor illness or inclement weather. If a course is cancelled CAMH is responsible for refunding only the course fee.
