This course aims to provide primary care physicians, pharmacists, nurses and dentists with a set of evidence-based strategies
for the safe prescribing, dispensing and administering of opioids for chronic non-malignant pain.
Learning objectives
After successfully completing the course, participants will be able to:
- describe the effectiveness of opioids in treatment chronic non-malignant pain
- identify patients who are suitable candidates for opioid therapy
- outline how to safely initiate, titrate and maintain opioid therapy
- identify and manage risks related to high-risk patients
- explain the importance of interprofessional collaboration in improving patient safety
- apply the Canadian Guidelines for Safe and Effective Use of Opioids for Chronic Non-cancer Pain to their practice.
