Safer Prescribing, Dispensing and Administering of Opioids for Patients with Non-malignant Chronic Pain

This course  aims to provide primary care physicians,  pharmacists, nurses and dentists  with a set of evidence-based strategies for the safe prescribing, dispensing and administering of opioids for chronic non-malignant pain. 

 

Learning objectives

After successfully completing the course, participants will be able to:

  • describe the effectiveness of opioids in treatment chronic non-malignant pain
  • identify patients who are suitable candidates for opioid therapy
  • outline how to safely initiate, titrate and maintain opioid therapy
  • identify and manage risks related to high-risk patients
  • explain the importance of interprofessional collaboration in improving patient safety
  • apply the Canadian Guidelines for Safe and Effective Use of Opioids for Chronic Non-cancer Pain to their practice.
