This PMAB training course provides Residents with skills in self-awareness, risk-assessment, de-escalation of self and Clients, an understanding of team roles during a Code White, or other crisis situation, physical self-protection, and in the use of Emergency Pinel restraints.

Learning Objectives:

  • An understanding of best practice principles with de-escalating aggressive/violent patients or clients
  • A practical knowledge of the Code White polices and procedures during a psychiatric emergency at CAMH
  • Clarification of the specific roles and responsibilities of Residents at CAMH during Code White or psychiatric emergency situations
  • An overview of approved self protections skills
  • The ability to recognize approved physical control and restraining techniques used to manage violent clients
  • Emergency Pinel mechanical restraints techniques
