This PMAB training course provides Residents with skills in self-awareness, risk-assessment, de-escalation of self and Clients, an understanding of team roles during a Code White, or other crisis situation, physical self-protection, and in the use of Emergency Pinel restraints.

Learning Objectives:

An understanding of best practice principles with de-escalating aggressive/violent patients or clients
A practical knowledge of the Code White polices and procedures during a psychiatric emergency at CAMH
Clarification of the specific roles and responsibilities of Residents at CAMH during Code White or psychiatric emergency situations
An overview of approved self protections skills
The ability to recognize approved physical control and restraining techniques used to manage violent clients
Emergency Pinel mechanical restraints techniques
