Schizophrenia and the Family
Please join us for this exciting informational event with Dr. Lisa Dixon.
Dr. Dixon is an associate professor of medicine and psychiatry at the University of Maryland , her research focuses on schizophrenia
and family treatment. Through these efforts she has found that family interventions are very effective in improving communication
and relationships, she continues to research the effectiveness of family programming in preventing relapses and lessening
symptoms.
Dr. Dixon has had over 100 papers published in peer– reviewed journals. She is also actively involved in NAMI and has a brother
living with schizophrenia.
Dr. Dixon received her Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Harvard in 1980 and her medical degree from Weill Medical College
of Cornell University in 1985. After completing her residency at the Payne Whitney Psychiatric Clinic in 1989, she completed
a research fellowship at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center. She later earned a Masters in Public Health from Johns
Hopkins University.
