Dual Diagnosis Program

The Dual Diagnosis Program helps people who have a dual diagnosis, and offers support to their families and care providers. In Ontario, "dual diagnosis" refers to people who have both a developmental disability and emotional, behavioural or psychiatric difficulties.

The Dual Diagnosis Program helps people who have:

A history of unclear assessment and diagnosis
A history of medical problems, such as limited effects of medication, side-effects of medication or being on many medications at once
Other health issues, such as communications disorders or seizure disorders, that complicate treatment.

The Dual Diagnosis program provides services which are coordinated within the broader continuum of supports and services, using approaches that integrate mental health and developmental perspectives. We operate both as an inpatient unit and as a community-based service. The Dual Diagnosis Program serves people who live in the Toronto and Peel Region and in homes for special care in York Region.

Dual Diagnosis Resource Service (Toronto)

Provides consultation, assessment, diagnosis, time limited treatment, respite, in-home and crisis supports, education, training and system facilitation including referrals to housing, vocational, educational and treatment services. Consultation and support to family members and service providers caring for individuals with Dual Diagnosis. Time-limited case management is available as part of these services.

Dual Diagnosis Peel Region Consultation Service

Provides consultation, assessment, diagnosis, program recommendations, system facilitation, crisis planning, education and training.

Dual Diagnosis Day Treatment Service

The Dual Diagnosis Program offers Day Treatment for the inpatient unit and for individuals in the community who can benefit from time-limited admission for consultation, assessment, treatment, training and skills development as an alternative to hospitalization.

Dual Diagnosis Inpatient Unit

This unit has 15 beds for time limited admission, assessment and treatment for clients referred with a dual diagnosis.
